Dog Days

Well, now that we are finished with the bear story.......................

Today has been quiet - It is just home - work - sleep - and get up do it all over again. I will be glad when it ends.

The weather has been in the 90's and predicted to be that way all week. The good thing is we are nearing the "Dog Days of Summer.

Today has been quiet - It is just home - work - sleep - and get up do it all over again. I will be glad when it ends. The weather has been in the 90's and predicted to be that way all week. The good thing is we are nearing the "Dog Days of Summer".

Dog Days refers to the most hot sultry days of summer. They usually fall between July and September and occur only in the Northern Hempishere. Theyvary from region to region when the dog star (Sirius) the brightest star in the sky rises in conjunction with the sun. Ancient astronomers felt the combination of the Sun and Sirius was responsible for the extreme heat we experience in the middle of summer. Droughts, plagues and madness were associated with Dog Days.

The Old Farmer's Almanac lists traditional times as the 40 days from July 3 to August 11.

Here are a couple proverbs for you.

As the dog days commence, so they end.
Traditional English proverb

If it rains on first dog day, it will rain for forty days thereafter.
Traditional English proverb

Dog days bright and clear
Indicate a happy year
But when accompanied by rain
For better times our hopes are vain
Traditional English proverb

And now if you wil excuse me, I am dog tired and dog eared. This days has not been fit for a dog.

It's a dog's life.

That's it for Today.
